Hau Kola Tipi Company

POLAND
Fabrics we use, is:
Natural (cotton)
Durable - the fabrics are thickly woven, what allows them to last long even in unfavorable weather conditions such as wind, rain or snow.
Impregnated - water-proof and rotting-proof. Preparations we use for impregnating are of high quality and what is most important they allow the fabric to breath by leaving the pores open. We offer fire-proof impregnating, too.
Tipi styles:
We offer 4 types of tipi, basing on a particular tribes model: Crow, Sioux, Cheyenne, or Blackfeet. You may suggest, while making an order, according to which tribes pattern the tipi should be sewn.
Tipi sizes:
There is a possibility to sew a tipi in any size, from 3 meters high, usually for children up to a huge 9 meters high tiotipi. It all depends on the purpose of such tipi and the number of people willing to live in one. Due to the fact that tipi is not a perfectly regular cone, its pattern causes that the tipi leans slightly backwards. See details here: Tipi sizes
Reinforcements:
How the tipi is made, determines how long it will actually last. It can be sewn out of very thick fabric, but if it is not properly strengthened in particular places, it will soon be torn, especially if used often. We have come up with our own system of reinforcing the places that are most vulnerable to any kind of strain, so that the tipi can last for years and years. For strengthening We use special linen, very strong one that is resistant to tearing. For more details read here: Tipi reinforcements
Paintings:
Painted tipi looks just beautiful. The Indians used to place patterns from visions and dreams on their tipis. In painted tipi, we can distinguish three main areas. The Earth area, painted usually on the lower part, had a shape of a stripe(bend) with various elements - this symbolizes mother-earth. The sky area is a circle around the smoking flaps. Symbols drawn there were usually connected with horizon (the stars, the sun, and star constellation). The area between those two mentioned symbolizes everything that lives between the sky and the earth. Here, some personal drawings are made, like protective animals or visions of an individual.
There is a possibility to make drawings according to patterns that already exist here: PAINTINGS, or to individual preferences.
The acryl-color used for painting is of the highest quality. The painting is durable, waterproof, it does not fell off, nor fade in the sun.
Liner (lining) and ozan:
Liner is an inner layer of a material, at about 1,5 meters long, spread all around tipi. At the bottom it is attached to the ground and at the top it is tied to the thread around the poles.
Ozan is a type of roof hung above the bedding. It spreads through out almost half of tipi, preventing from unexpected rain. The endings of ozan fall outside the liner, so that the rain which gets through the gap in smoke flaps, falls down on the ozan, and then flows behind the liner.
